Here is a really simple step-by-step guide on how you can harden and secure your WordPress installation, this will literally only take you 5 seconds or less to do.
1. Install WordPress using Softaculous
Softaculous is a 1-click installation program that comes included with most, if not all, web hosting plans.
First, go to Softaculous from your Cpanel homepage.
Then, install WordPress using Softaculous easy to follow and understand instructions
2. Harden & Secure WordPress
At the bottom of the installation page you are given two options.
The first thing you want to do is to Limit Login Attempts. You want to tick this checkbox.
This will automatically install a nifty little plugin which limits the number of login attempts possible. In other words, it blocks brute force attempts being made to crack your login details.
The next thing you want to do under “Advanced Options” is to schedule Automated Backups. Softaculous will take automated backups via CRON as per the frequency you select (once a day, week or month).
If something goes terribly wrong, e.g. your site is hacked, then you can restore your site from an earlier backup being made.
There you have it. By simply doing these two steps you have significantly hardened and secured your new installation of WordPress.
